Tips for Connecting with Telehealth

Written by May 09, 2021

Telehealth appointments are a new concept for many of us. To get the most out of your next telehealth appointment we share some top tips on how to set up.

1.    Find a quiet space

In face-to-face appointments you most often have a nice quiet space to meet with your health professionals so that you can get the most out of your appointment. Get the same value out of your telehealth appointment by finding a quiet space in your home that is comfortable, well lit and free from distractions like pets or children if possible!

2.  Check your device and internet coverage

It is always a good idea to ensure that your internet and device are working well before participating in a telehealth appointment. Ensure your device is well charged or connected to a power source. Using Oqea you can test your camera and microphone prior to joining the meeting. Lastly, you can use the settings option on your device to check that your internet signal is strong and will maintain its connection throughout your appointment. It is always good to minimise other programs that you use in the background to ensure you don’t drain your battery energy or slow down your internet connection. The more programs you have open at any one time the slower your internet connection will typically be.

If you still cannot connect after doing all of the above please get in touch with the Oqea team during business hours on info@oqea.com.

3.  Getting comfortable for your appointment

A telehealth appointment from home is similar in ways to an appointment at the GP. Make sure you wear comfortable and appropriate clothing and set up your device at eye level so that your health professional can see your face clearly and you can chat like you would in a face-to-face appointment. If you do not have a device that can stand upright on a level surface, consider propping up your phone for example against a sturdy stack of books so that you don’t have to hold the device and grow weary. Lastly, ensure your device is fully charged or connected to a power source prior to commencing your appointment. You don’t want to waste precious time in your appointment fixing up your device and reconnecting!

4.  Get focused

Sometimes it can be hard to stay focused on a telehealth appointment when you are within an environment with lots of distractions. Ensure you have the privacy you need to talk openly and honestly with your health professional and without being interrupted by others. Ensure your other devices are on silent so you won’t be distracted by incoming emails or notifications. Being present will ensure you get the most out of your appointment!
